Goodbye, Dolly
Flags across the land flew half-mast. The British Royal Guard broke into “9 to 5.” The Empire State Building lit up in pink sparkles.
You know why we’re seeing such an outpouring of affection around the world for Dolly Parton? Because she was real and she was herself.
I always liked Dolly Parton. Can’t think of anyone who didn’t. She was the Queen of Everybody. An ambassador to the world.
She always poked fun at herself. The way she dressed, her hair, where she was from. She did it before anybody else could take a swipe at her. And I don’t know if anybody ever had a better smile or laugh.
Hey, be nice to somebody today. Dolly did it every day. She probably could’ve negotiated world peace better than anyone. She had a way about her that we’ve never seen before and probably never will again. Keep your dukes up.
