The Real Warrior

I’ve always been a fan of Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr. He’s about as sensible as it gets—and a straight shooter. In fact, when he played in the NBA, he was an incredible three-point shooter.

Steve was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His father, Malcolm Kerr, was assassinated by members of the Islamic Jihad in 1984. He was 52 and serving as the President of the American University of Beirut. He was shot twice in the back of the head. Steve was 18 at the time, a college freshman back in the States.

Steve Kerr has never been afraid to take a stand. And he did it again the other day at a post-game press conference, wearing a Harvard Basketball t-shirt. I gotta tell ya, I was inspired by what he said. I even ordered a Harvard baseball hat to show a little support. Hey, the way I figure it, if people see me wearing the hat, they’ll think I went to Harvard.” Maybe I’ll get smarter wearing it.

When you think of all the medical advances by Harvard that have saved and benefited us all, why in hell would this administration cut Harvard’s research funding? The smallpox vaccine, anesthesia, appendicitis treatment, electrocardiography, the first polio patient saved, corrective heart surgery for kids, telemedicine, MRIs... the list goes on and on. That move only hurts all of us—here and around the world.

And you know what bothers the hell out of me? How come Coach Steve Kerr can take a strong stand—and most congressmen and senators can’t?

Keep your dukes up.
