Fly The Coop

It’s my patriotic duty to keep you posted on the roosters campaign in Ogunquit, Maine. Well, all along the Southern Maine coast. My brother Johnnie, better known as JO’B, popped one on the front lawn at my parents’ house on Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport.

So here’s where we’re at now.

Don’t forget, this all started when the owners of the Omelette Factory, a breakfast joint in Ogunquit, placed a few six-foot-tall roosters at their home and restaurant to support their daughter, Pyper, a little girl with autism. The roosters have become a grassroots symbol of autism awareness and acceptance.

Ogunquit Code Officer Tyler McOsker has already fined the Omelette Factory owners, Sara and Dave LeBlanc, a couple of times for violations. And now that jackass code officer has slapped the LeBlancs with another fine. What’s nuts is that all kinds of people are dropping off roosters to support Pyper. She now has a whole flock in her backyard to play with.

After the latest fine, a hotshot Washington, D.C., law firm stepped up to help the LeBlancs. The firm specializes in abuses of government power, and they’re taking the case pro bono. They’ve told the LeBlancs not to pay the latest fine.

Oh boy, this is getting good. As the lawyer said, “Somebody’s got to stand up.” Keep your dukes up.
