Hey You, Get Off Of My Cloud
I don’t get it. I really don’t get it. Why are we making things harder for the hardest-working Americans?
Take the trap-hauling Maine lobstermen and women. They get rolling at 4 a.m. and haul traps until sundown before heading back to the harbor. They’re dealing with some tough stuff today. You’ve got warming waters pushing those critters farther north—almost to Canada. And now, the poor bastards are dealing with high tariffs.
The steel they use to make traps comes from China. The best markets for Maine lobsters are China and Canada. Most Maine lobsters are processed in Canada, going back and forth about four times. Big bucks, Gin Bottle Garvey. These tariffs aren’t doing these fishermen any good. They’re putting long-time family traditions at risk. In Maine, over 35,000 jobs are supported by the lobster trade, and the lobster is what the state is best known for. These goddamn tariffs are putting a claw hold on the state of Maine.
Up at Pleasant Valley Farms—Vermont’s largest dairy farm—they’re grabbing and deporting a lot of the farm’s workers. These workers have agricultural visas to work in Vermont. So what the hell is going on?
You know what I heard? Vermont is responsible for 63% of the milk produced in New England. So where the hell are we going to get the milk to pour on our Rice Krispies? I gotta hear that snap, crackle, and pop, Bucko.
There’s no reason to be doing any of this, because you know who it hurts? Americans. All I gotta say is: America wants America back.
Keep your dukes up.
