As Always, Fun Sells

Observed recently on the Outer and Lower portions of Cape Cod:

Restaurants once unapproachable during the lunch and dinner rush, are now easily approachable. (For the most part. And even the wait to get into the venerable Arnold’s Lobster & Clam Bar in Eastham, is down from a lifetime to two thirds of a lifetime).

Deli and coffee shop business is off everywhere.

But the lines at the doughnut shops and the ice cream shops everywhere are as long as they ever have been. A good hand-cut doughnut is still pretty much impossible to come by after 10:30 a.m. And the line for malasadas (fried dough) at the Portuguese Bakery on Commercial Street in Provincetown is longer than ever.
Malasadas

There’s only one reasonable conclusion, and it’s not that Cape Cod residents and vacationers (who are definitely smaller in number) are under the impression that doughnuts, ice cream and fried dough have made the list of nutritional necessities. It’s that even when everything else is harder to sell, fun still packs ‘em in.

It’s as true today as it ever has been: Show people a good time, and you’ll win their business. It doesn’t matter what business you’re in; it works. The only question left for you to answer is what are you going to do about it?

The Future Is Here … In 3D

Sometimes the future comes flying at you in such an unmistakable form there’s almost nothing left to say once you’ve seen it. This is one of those times.

3D projection makes for some pretty cool art right now. It’s going to make for some astounding outdoor advertising in the very near future.
